While the semester break is already underway at their home universities, they will be collecting credit points in English-language classes alongside their fellow students from Dortmund from late May to late July. All the participants will also be taking a German course and a cultural studies class that introduces them to the culture and politics in Germany. On top of that, they can also take part in a research project.
The International Summer Program at TU Dortmund University, which began on 27 May, takes place during the regular lecture period. This ensures that international students are integrated into campus life in Dortmund. The thematic focuses of the ISP are divided into three tracks: Engineering, German & European Studies and Entrepreneurship.
Prof. Walter Grünzweig, who is the academic director of the ISP alongside Prof. Sergio Lucia and welcomed the participants at the reception in the International Meeting Center, said: “We are delighted to have you here – because international exchange and networking among young people promote mutual understanding for a common future in a globalized world.”
Diverse leisure and excursion program
The ISP is taking place for the 19th time this year and is a popular offering for students from partner universities of TU Dortmund University. In return, Dortmund students can study at participating partner universities abroad free of charge. Outside the lecture halls and seminar rooms, international students can look forward to a comprehensive leisure and excursion program to get to know the Ruhr area as the inviting region that it is. The academic side of the ISP is organized by the Department of Biochemical and Chemical Engineering, the Department of Cultural Studies and the Center for Entrepreneurship & Transfer (CET), while the International Office supports the program on an administrative level.
