DEGREE brings real-world experience to students' computers.

Schools are becoming more digitized, and the same applies to teacher training. Since October 2018, the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) has been funding the interdisciplinary project “DEGREE 4.0 – Digital reflexive teacher training 4.0: video-based – barrier-free – personalized” at TU Dortmund University. The project supports students in various teaching subjects to further develop their diagnostic and support skills with the aid of a digital and barrier-free learning platform.

The aim of the DEGREE 4.0. project is to integrate practice into university teaching, thereby enabling future teachers to gain theory-based practical experience and starting points for reflecting on their own actions. To this end, a digital learning platform will be developed and researched with which students in the teaching subjects German, Computer Science, Mathematics, Music and Rehabilitation Sciences can develop and apply content for diagnosis and support in video-based case studies from practice. They receive additional support, for example through specific tasks and rich communication opportunities. The learning platform is barrier-free in two respects: On the one hand, the platform can be accessed from home or in the university via Internet-enabled terminals. On the other hand, not only the access to the platform, but also to the content is barrier-free, as the platform can be adapted to the individual needs of the users.

First project phase to run until 2022

The project is being conducted at TU Dortmund University under the direction of Prof. Dr. Stephan Hußmann, Institute for Development and Research in Mathematics Education (IEEM). Also involved are Prof. Dr. Nührenbörger (IEEM), Prof. Dr.  Bosse (Faculty of Rehabilitation Sciences), Prof. Dr. Marci-Boehncke (Institute of German Language and Literature) and Prof. Dr. Johannes Fischer (Faculty of Computer Science) and Prof. Dr.  Kranefeld (Institute of Music and Musicology). The first project phase runs from 2018 to 2022. The funding amount is two million euros.
