Overview
The Master’s degree program in Industrial Engineering and Management at TU Dortmund University is a full-time program of three semesters. After the Master's thesis to be completed in the third semester, the academic degree of Master of Science (Industrial Engineering and Management) is awarded. This degree program is a scientific extension of the corresponding Bachelor’s degree program.
Equivalent to the Bachelor’s degree program, the Master’s degree program offers three specializations: Industrial Management, Production Management and Management of Electrical Networks. The choice of specialization in the master's program must be made at the beginning of the program, but is not necessarily dependent on the specialization chosen in the Bachelor’s degree program. For the Industrial Management specialization, two different elective blocks are also offered in the area of production technology or energy management.
Skills and knowledge
Economic and engineering fundamentals acquired as part of the Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering or a comparable degree (at least 210 LP). Depending on the choice of specialization, a corresponding focus knowledge is desirable.
Field of activity
An increase in highly technical business processes based on the division of labor can be observed in almost all areas of the economy. Parallel to this, internationalization, economic competition and the use of new information technologies require an ever-increasing level of technical competence from all those employees who have to organize and improve such processes. Industrial engineers help optimize highly complex technical processes in corporate management. They use modern information technologies efficiently and utilize the competencies of employees without losing sight of social factors and the ecological balance. Their interdisciplinary training gives them a unique combination of knowledge and skills. Due to the optimal combination of their skills and knowledge, they have very good job market opportunities.
Additional information
The examination board decides on exceptions and the admission of students with other degrees. In the case of recognition of a degree program that differs from the Dortmund Bachelor’s degree program in Industrial Engineering and Management, admission may be granted by the Examination Committee subject to the condition that certain additional study or examination achievements, which are prerequisites for successful study in the Master’s degree program, are proven by the time of registration for the Master’s thesis.
