Overview

Logistics ensures the supply and disposal of companies and entire economies with flows of materials, information, energy and people. From procurement and production to distribution and disposal, it assumes a cross-sectional function across all functional areas along the supply chain. In addition to technology and business administration, the most important tools of the trade are IT systems, the ability to work in a team and leadership skills.

The Master’s degree program in logistics at TU Dortmund University is a full-time program lasting three semesters, with the third semester being devoted exclusively to writing the Master’s thesis. The aim of the master's program is to deepen prior knowledge in logistics and to expand technical and methodological knowledge in order to qualify graduates primarily for research, consulting and management functions.

In order to guarantee students the greatest possible flexibility in their choice of specialization, students can select modules from the elective catalogs according to their interests.

Skills and knowledge

A prerequisite for admission to the Master’s degree program in logistics is a completed bachelor's degree in logistics, engineering, business administration, computer science or a related field with a total of 210 LP.

In addition, the following requirements must be met:
- min. 14 LP from the field of higher mathematics
- min. 8 LP from the field of engineering mechanics
- min. 38 LP from the field of logistics

Requirements that are not completely covered by the Bachelor’s degree program must be compensated by appropriate requirements.

Field of activity

The increasing networking of companies, especially due to the advancing globalization in production and trade, requires efficient supply chains. The planning and control of these often complex logistical activities requires academically trained specialists. As logistics continues to be one of the fastest growing industries, the current high demand for logistics graduates will continue in the future.

Additional information

The examination board decides on exceptions and the admission of students with other degrees. In the case of recognition of a course of study deviating from the Dortmund Bachelor's degree program in Logistics, admission may be subject to the condition by the Examination Committee that certain additional study or examination achievements, which are prerequisites for successful study in the Master's degree program, are proven by the time of registration for the Master's thesis.
