Overview

The Master’s degree program is divided into foundation modules and specialization modules which prepare students for a variety of possible professional fields. The foundation modules build on the one hand on the skills acquired in earlier studies and on the other hand they form the basis for professional thinking and acting in the field of rehabilitation sciences, such as are found in the Master’s degree program.

The program offers three specializations, of which students study one in greater depth:

• Inclusive Education and Social Participation

• Structure of Rehabilitation Systems

• Diagnosis, Prevention and Intervention in Rehabilitation

Skills and knowledge

In addition to holding a Bachelor’s degree program in rehabilitation pedagogy or from another suitable program, prospective students should have a fundamental interest in work in the social sector. Prerequisite for the Master’s degree program in Rehabilitation Sciences is a relevant Bachelor’s degree with a final cumulative grade of at least 2.3. It is recommended that students acquire some pertinent professional experience in support and services for people with disabilities and social rehabilitation at the start of their studies and/or work in a relevant professional field in parallel to the program.

Applicants should aspire to give all citizens an equal opportunity to participate in society. Everyone – regardless of whether or not they need special support – should have the right and the possibility to decide for themselves about their own life and to shape it according to their own ideas. In this context, future rehabilitation scientists should acknowledge each person’s individuality and understand support methods, objectives and processes from a transdisciplinary perspective, in order to be able to develop networked and customized support systems.

Field of activity

The program:

  • prepares students for management responsibilities and tasks related to concept development, process control and research management
  • qualifies students for senior-level posts in prevention and rehabilitation in healthcare, social welfare and rehabilitation systems as well as in social planning and social organization
  • teaches the expertise required for the planning, implementation, evaluation and research-based further development of diagnostic and support processes

Additional information

The M.A. in Rehabilitation Sciences is a research-based program. That is why a deeper insight into the theory and practice of social science research is an integral part. In parallel to the courses in the foundation module “Research Practice”, students are given thorough practical training in the framework of a research internship. This guarantees a close intertwining of theoretical and practical elements.

In addition, the specializations end with a project module, where small groups design and develop a project concept by themselves, implement it and present the results.

The program is additionally flanked by learning-teaching agreements between teaching staff and students as well as mentoring.
