Overview
The Master’s degree program in Biochemical Engineering is research-oriented. Graduates know and have mastered modern technologies and methods of biochemical engineering and can apply these to the requirements of industrial practice.
The program develops the student’s capability to work independently as a process engineer with a focus on the biochemical field. It imparts the ability to develop, analyze, and optimize new processes for the production of low and high molecular weight products. This includes mastering the modern technologies of molecular genetic engineering and biochemistry, bioreaction technology, microbiological process engineering, and product reprocessing.
Skills and knowledge
Candidates with an academic degree of Bachelor of Science or Bachelor of Engineering in Biochemical Engineering in accordance with ECTS regulations or a comparable course are admitted to the Master’s degree in Bioengineering. For students who have completed a six-semester course (180 credits), the study duration in the Master’s degree program is four semesters. Students from other universities usually have to attend additional required courses. Foreign students who have obtained a Bachelor’s degree that is not in accordance with the ECTS regulations can also be admitted. Details on admission can be found in the admission regulations.

The Master’s degree program can be started in the winter or summer semester. Students of TU Dortmund University can enroll in the Master’s degree program all year round. For external students, the following deadlines apply:
