Business Intelligence Software

In order to meet the requirements of comparability, transparency, availability and user-friendliness, a Business Intelligence Software (BI) was introduced by the Office of Controlling and Risk Management and the Corporate Center University Development and Organization, which can be used to access the various databases of TU Dortmund University with the appropriate rights.

This means that users now have only one processing point for all data. The goal is to gain insights that enable better operational and strategic decisions. This is done with the help of analytical concepts and IT systems that evaluate data.

The advantages of a BI

  • Data is compiled into a data pool that contains all important information.
  • The data pool is fixed and uniform in BI; evaluations always refer to the same data set.
  • Due to various plausibility options in BI, the validity of the data can be checked in the operative systems and correct data is obtained.
  • Ad-hoc queries as well as key date-related evaluations are possible.
  • Planning processes are supported in a uniform manner at various levels involved.
  • Targeted reports with uniform query routines and evaluation processes can be created. This ensures the transparency of the results.
  • The report creation process can be set up more efficiently.
  • By using different data sources, it is possible to create cross-sectional reports.
  • Uniform, easily accessible information ensures the integrity of the data, to which all authorized employees of the university have access according to their rights.
