Over 1,300 athletes took part in the 37th Campus Run of TU Dortmund University on 24 May.

Once again, the campus was turned into a running track: Ambitious athletes and amateur runners gathered on 24 May to compete in various categories. With perfect running weather and a lively atmosphere, the audience cheered on the participants at Martin-Schmeisser-Platz. A new course record was even set in the men’s 10-kilometer race.

Just in time for the event’s 5 p.m. start, the gray sky disappeared and out came the sun, keeping the running course and all participants dry until the award ceremony. A total of around 1,300 runners secured a registration number and completed the stretch across the campus.

Competing in various disciplines

The day started with the Kids Run, where Kokoro Schuck (1:49) and Moritz Frye (2:01) were the first to cross the finish line. Immediately afterwards, Vice President Academic Affairs Prof. Wiebke Möhring opened the 2.5-kilometer run. The runners with the fastest times were Frederik Dönch at 8:40 minutes and Karlotta Jule Kranz at 10:16 minutes. At the same time, the starting signal was given for the Math Tower run, where the participants climbed the 220 steps of the tallest TU building. Lorenz Nieder (1:12.6) and Maike Drewenskus (1:23.8) each made it to the tenth floor the fastest.

President Prof. Manfred Bayer was happy to fire the starting pistol for the 5-kilometer run. In this popular category, Lorenz Rix (17:42) and Sabine Lischka (21:16) were the fastest runners. Afterwards Prof. Tessa Flatten, Vice President International Affairs, gave the starting signal for the 10-kilometer run. Track athlete and TU Dortmund University student Hendrik Pfeiffer, who competed in the marathon of the 2021 Olympics in Tokyo, set a new course record with 30:51 minutes. Lea Marie Pötz (43:35) was the fastest woman to cross the finish line. Finally, “Die Pacer” was the fastest team competing in the relay race: Bastian Luthmann, Ulrich Schulze-Bergkamen, Marvin Jesinghaus and Yannik Kopezki ran the 4 x 2.5 kilometer in 33:21 minutes.

Awards for creative costumes and Campus Champs

In keeping with tradition, some runners and teams came to the campus run in creative costumes – this time around, four princesses were awarded at the end of the events. And in 2023, the Campus Champs were announced yet again – these were the participants with the fastest overall running times in the 5 km run, the 10 km TOP run and the Math Tower run. This year, the honor went to Antonia Köhr, Jarne Willrich and Lorenz Rix.

“The Campus Run is the sporting highlight on the TU Dortmund University campus every year,” said Christoph Edeler, Head of University Sports. “We are delighted to see so many runners on campus.”
