We watched today’s press conference by the German Science and Humanities Council with overwhelming joy: Our consortium, the Ruhr Innovation Lab, is among the winners of the Excellence Strategy competition! Starting in January, we will receive funding as a “Consortium of Excellence” and rank among the top 15 in the German higher education landscape.
This is great news for all members of our two universities—and beyond: With this funding, we will implement our strategic plan to jointly develop solutions for a future-proof society. To this end, we will not only create freedom for new research ideas but also intensify our collaboration with citizens, the business community, and policymakers. Our goal is to contribute solutions to maintain prosperity, strengthen trust in the digital age, and safeguard the values of our democracy. We also aim to generate momentum to once again make the Ruhr Area a driving force for future-oriented transformation.
In addition to research and knowledge transfer, our proposal also includes a series of measures to promote talent development, diversity, and internationalization across all areas and to leverage synergies in the collaboration between the two universities. We view the Ruhr Innovation Lab as an experimental space where new ideas can be tested, enabling universities to respond more effectively to current developments.
We would like to invite all members of TU Dortmund University and Ruhr University Bochum to learn more about our plans and ask questions during a virtual town hall meeting on Wednesday, October 7, at 2:15 p.m.:
