Dear Readers:

This month we have once again seen how cooperation in the Ruhr region leads to success: Together with the University of Duisburg-Essen (UDE), we acquired the new “AMTEC-Pro” Research Training Group from the German Research Foundation (DFG), in which doctoral students will work on the promising field of proton therapy at the interface of physics, chemistry and medicine.

Interdisciplinary cooperation is also key to the Research Center One Health Ruhr, which we opened together with Ruhr University Bochum (RUB) and UDE at the beginning of the month in the presence of North Rhine-Westphalia’s Minister-President Hendrik Wüst and North Rhine-Westphalia’s Science Minister Ina Brandes. In addition to the cutting-edge international research of our Research Alliance Ruhr, the state is currently also funding two UA Ruhr projects for the reconstruction of the Ukraine, namely to support universities and the digital recording of architectural monuments.

In order to act ethically in these complex and challenging times, both in research and in social and political engagement, we have established a joint Council for Ethics and Responsibility at the UA Ruhr. This expert group will deal with important value discussions and set guidelines for our actions.
