Info Letter September 2025

Dear Readers:

A space for experimentation offering researchers freedom to try out innovative ideas and to bring them to bear in business and society – that is the vision for the Ruhr Innovation Lab. Under this title, we – together with Ruhr University Bochum – are applying as a Consortium of Excellence in the second round of the Excellence Strategy. My colleague Martin Paul and I introduced the key points at a university-wide event in September. We will present the plans in more detail in mid-November, after submitting the proposal.

The Ruhr Innovation Lab builds on the long-standing and successful collaboration within the University Alliance Ruhr, which we will continue together with the University of Duisburg-Essen. Starting this winter semester, we will offer students at all three universities the first joint certificate in “Diversity and Gender”. We will also enable prospective teachers to prepare for multilingualism in classrooms in a flexible way through a coordinated project.

You can find more news from September in this info letter.

Best regards
Manfred Bayer
President of TU Dortmund University
