Info Letter May 2024

Dear Readers:

At the end of the month, we received particularly good news from the German Research Foundation (DFG): TU Dortmund University and Ruhr University Bochum (RUB) have jointly acquired the new Collaborative Research Center/Transregio TRR 391 “Spatio-temporal Statistics for the Transition of Energy and Transport”, which will be funded for almost four years with around 10 million euros.

In addition to us and the RUB, the University of Duisburg-Essen and five other partners are also involved in the large-scale research project, which will address an urgent topic: the transition of the energy and mobility sectors. In order to achieve the climate targets, the use of fossil fuels must be significantly reduced. Statistical methods will therefore be used to analyze data from various economic sectors and to provide reliable forecasts for policy-making.

I would like to congratulate the new spokesperson, Prof. Roland Fried from the Department of Statistics, and all the other participants on their successful acquisition.

You can find out what other news May has brought in this info letter.

Best regards
Manfred Bayer
President of TU Dortmund University
