Nobelpreisträger Prof. Klaus von Klitzing

liebe Studierende,

wir freuen uns sehr, dass wir direkt zum Start ins neue Jahr 2025 im Rahmen der Vortragsreihe INITIALZÜNDUNG einen Nobelpreisträger an unserer Universität begrüßen können. Schon im Januar bietet sich wieder die Gelegenheit, einem hochkarätigen Wissenschaftler zuzuhören, der sein Forschungsthema eindrucksvoll erläutert. Prof. Klaus von Klitzing, emeritierter Direktor am Max-Planck-Institut für Festkörperforschung in Stuttgart, hat mit seinen experimentellen Arbeiten, die 1985 zur Verleihung des Nobelpreises für Physik führten, das Forschungsgebiet des quantisierten Halleffektes eröffnet. Auf Basis dieses Effektes werden heute weltweit alle Präzisionsmessungen von elektrischen Widerständen relativ zur von-Klitzing-Konstanten durchgeführt.

Sein Vortragsthema „Vom Nobelpreis zu unserem heutigen Kilogramm – Die Quantenrevolution in der Metrologie“ ist sehr aktuell: Die Vereinten Nationen haben das Jahr 2025 als Internationales Jahr der Quantenwissenschaft und -technologie ausgerufen und würdigen damit 100 Jahre Forschung auf der Grundlage der Quantenmechanik.

Wie bei den Vorträgen der Reihe INITIALZÜNDUNG üblich, schließt sich an den Vortrag des Nobelpreisträgers eine Diskussionsrunde mit dem Publikum an.

Nobel Laureate Prof. Klaus von Klitzing

We are very pleased to be able to welcome a Nobel laureate to our university right at the start of the new year 2025. In January, we once again have the opportunity to listen to a top-class scientist who will explain his research topic in an impressive way. I cordially invite you to a lecture by Nobel laureate Professor Dr. Klaus von Klitzing on 21 January 2025 at 5 p.m. in the Audimax. Please do not hesitate to register at www.tu-dortmund.de/iz.

Professor Klaus von Klitzing, Director Emeritus at the Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research in Stuttgart, opened up the research field of the quantized Hall effect with his experimental work, which led to him being awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1985. Today, all precision measurements of electrical resistance worldwide are implemented relative to the von Klitzing constant on the basis of this effect.

His lecture topic “From the Nobel Prize to Today’s Kilogram - the Quantum Revolution in Metrology” is very topical: the United Nations has proclaimed 2025 as the International Year of Quantum Science and Technology in recognition of 100 years of scientific research based on quantum mechanics.

As is customary for the lectures in the lecture series INITIALSPARK, the lecture by the Nobel laureate will be followed by a discussion with the audience.
