Info Letter July 2026

Dear Readers:

At TU Dortmund University, teaching and research do not take place in the oft-cited “ivory tower”, but rather have many points of contact with the real world. For instance, the foundation Wübben Stiftung Wissenschaft supports the professorship of Matthias Grotevent, who conducts research on novel nanomaterials for the energy transition. Many local business leaders are also actively involved in the Association of Friends of TU Dortmund University, providing strong support for our university’s development, as demonstrated at the annual general meeting.

How artificial intelligence is transforming the regional economy was once again topic of the Future Dialog, this time featuring Daniela Rode from Signal Iduna. Dealing with AI therefore remains an important aspect of teaching, as our new handout also underscores. Furthermore, seven departments have made their curricula more flexible as part of the “Job & Master” program, enabling students to work while pursuing their studies.
