Dear Readers:

Together, we are stronger. This is why we and Ruhr University Bochum will jointly apply as a University Consortium of Excellence in the second funding line of the Excellence Strategy. As an innovation laboratory for the Ruhr region, we aim to test new cross-university structures in cutting-edge research that will also be transferable to the UA Ruhr.

Unfortunately, we cannot compete in the Excellence Strategy as a trio together with the University of Duisburg-Essen. However, the alliance between all three universities forms the basis for our Consortium of Excellence, and we are still collaborating successfully within the UA Ruhr, as demonstrated again this month: In memory of former Federal Environment Minister Prof. Klaus Töpfer, we are creating an interdisciplinary Professorship for Sustainable Development. The UA Ruhr has reopened its liaison office for Latin America in São Paulo, Brazil, and we have set up an Early Career Researchers Board to support young researchers.

Our students also form a strong team: 17 athletes from our three universities will compete in the FISU World University Games next month. Further news from June can be found in this info letter.
