Info Letter April 2026

Dear Readers:

May brings an important milestone for TU Dortmund University: Together with Ruhr University Bochum, we will welcome the reviewers evaluating our application as Consortium of Excellence “Ruhr Innovation Lab”. This site visit marks a key step on our joint path to making the Ruhr Area’s strengths in research and knowledge transfer even more visible on the international stage.

Excellent research is at the core of this competition. At the same time, cross-cutting topics such as diversity, sustainability, and artificial intelligence play a central role for our future-proof collaboration. A look at our latest news shows that these issues are already being actively advanced by many university members —from Diversity Month in May and projects supporting the energy transition to the use of AI in vital areas for our society such as journalism or water supply.

These examples reflect the wide range of ideas and the valuable partnerships that characterize our university. I hope you enjoy reading the info letter.

Best regards
Manfred Bayer
President of TU Dortmund University
