Info Letter March 2026

Dear Readers:

Cutting-edge research in chemistry funded by the state and federal government, a new high-performance computer at the ITMC, and a Heisenberg grant to study the processes in thunderclouds – these are just a few examples of the strong research in the natural and engineering sciences at our university.

At the same time, we address numerous socially relevant issues as well as showcased this month. For 50 years, we have been teaching students journalistic skills to contribute to democratic discourse. Democracy is also in the focus of the USA@250 program, which we are organizing with the City of Dortmund to mark the anniversary of American Independence Day. The Aalto Ballet in Essen and the Department of Rehabilitation Sciences have partnered on a project dedicated to inclusion in the cultural sector. And a North Rhine-Westphalia-wide consortium, including TU Dortmund University, is investigating the impact of artificial intelligence on art and culture.
