Info Letter February 2024

Dear Readers:

This month, the University Alliance Ruhr (UA Ruhr) has reached another milestone in strengthening its cutting-edge research: in the Excellence Strategy competition, our alliance with Ruhr University Bochum and the University of Duisburg-Essen is now invited to submit four applications for Clusters of Excellence by summer. On 2 February, the German Research Foundation (DFG) and the German Science and Humanities Council (WR) announced that two new draft proposals with participation of the UA Ruhr have been successful in the first round.

TU Dortmund University is involved in “Color meets Flavor”, the University of Bonn’s proposal on particle physics. Additionally, the University of Duisburg-Essen was successful with its research program “REASONS” on the ecology of rivers. Together with Ruhr University Bochum (RUB), TU Dortmund University will submit a renewal proposal for the “RESOLV” Cluster of Excellence on solvation science. RUB aims also at continuing the “CASA” Cluster of Excellence on cybersecurity. This gives the UA Ruhr a chance to fulfill the requirements to apply as a Consortium of Excellence in May 2025. To this end, we will now continue to drive forward our strategic cooperation.

You can find more news from February in this info letter.

Best regards
Manfred Bayer
