Over 1,000 third-party funded projects

Research done in a lab.TU Dortmund University has a strong focus on research with a total of more than 1,000 third-party funded projects. Among them are several Collaborative Research Centers (CRC) and transregional Collaborative Research Centers (CRC/TRR), which are funded by the German Research Foundation. In 2015, third-party expenditure at TU Dortmund University amounted to 64 million euros, with three quarters stemming from public funds.

Excellence Initiative

TU Dortmund University is part of RESOLV, the Excellence Cluster 'Ruhr Explores Solvation' of Ruhr-Universität Bochum:

Collaborative Research Centers (CRC)

  • CRC 823: Statistical modeling of nonlinear dynamic processes
  • CRC 876 : Providing information by resource-constrained data analysis
  • Participation in CRC 969 of the University of Konstanz: Chemical and biological principles of cellular proteostasis
  • Participation in CRC 986 at the Hamburg University of Technology: Tailor-Made Multi-Scale Materials Systems - M3

Transregional Collaborative Research Centers (CRC/transregio)

  • CRC/transregio 160: Coherent manipulation of interacting spin excitations in tailored semiconductors
  • CRC/transregio 188 (in German only): Damage Controlled Forming Processes
  • Participation in CRC/transregio 63: Integrated chemical processes in liquid multiphase systems – InPROMPT
  • Participation in CRC/transregio 73: Manufacturing of complex functional components with variants by using a new sheet metal forming process – Sheet-bulk metal forming
