The two-part on­line event of the Graduiertenzentrum (GZ) at TU Dortmund University informs international students about how they can become a doctoral student at TU Dortmund University and what challenges they can expect in the first year of the doctorate. The free event requires prior registration.

The event will be led by Fabian Brinkmann and Dr. Benjamin Brast. Throughout the in­for­mation event, participants will learn about the peculiarities of the German scientific system, and get to know potential intercultural challenges associated with the German academic culture. The program is as follows:

  • Part I (10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.): Planning for your doctorate – Application, super­vi­sion, funding
    The first session is targeted at Master’s degree students, covering essential issues such as applying for a doctorate, securing funding, and finding a supervisor.
     
  • Part II (1:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.): Navigating your first year – How to successfully start your doctorate
    In the second session, students and early-stage doctoral researchers will learn how to successfully navigate the first year of their doctorate. Additionally, participants will get to know the resources TU Dort­mund Uni­ver­sity offers its doctoral researchers.

This event will be credited with four work units for the area "Information & Networking" of the Career Certificate for Doctoral Researchers.
