The Bildungsengel helps international researchers to bridge funding gaps.

As a generous donation, the Bildungsengel association has made money available to help international researchers who need bridging funds to establish or continue their academic careers at TU Dortmund University. Thanks to this financial support, two scientists have already been able to continue their research work at TU Dortmund University in the past months.

“We are very pleased to have received the donation from Bildungsengel,” said Professor Tessa Flatten, Vice Rector International Affairs at TU Dortmund University. “The first funds that we have been able to allocate have shown that this type of grant is extremely important to researchers in the international community, who in this way can continue their work without financial worries.”

“The various crises taking place in the world are also causing considerable difficulties for scientists from many different countries who are working at German universities,” said Professor Detlef Müller-Böling and Christine Müller-Böling, founders and chairpersons of Bildungsengel. “When money from family members or funding bodies in countries affected by such crises stops coming, work permits during the transition phase between studies and permanent employment in Germany are missing, or German funding institutions cannot keep up with the flood of applications, international researchers need uncomplicated bridging help. This is what our association facilitates.”

Applications possible at any time

Bildungsengel has donated €30,000 to TU Dortmund University so that it can support international researchers by awarding monthly grants. Professors or heads of institutes at TU Dortmund University can submit applications to the Vice Rector International Affairs at any time. In close cooperation with Bildungsengel, the university then checks what funding possibilities there are. In general, funds of up to €1,000 per month over a maximum period of six months are granted.
