Prorector Research: Prof. Dr. Andrzej Górak

GorakThe business division of the prorector for research includes all interdisciplinary issues relating to research at TU Dortmund, especially cooperative research and support of junior researchers as well as non-university research cooperation with national and international scientific institutions.

Professor Andrzej Górak studied chemistry at Technical University of Lodz in Poland where he obtained his PhD from the Faculty of Process Engineering in 1979. His thesis dealt with the continuous distillation of multi-component mixtures. He worked at the same faculty as senior researcher until 1988 and spent the following four years as a researcher at Henkel KGaA in Düsseldorf, Germany. Having completed his habilitation (second book) at RWTH Aachen in 1989, Andrzej Górak became Professor at the Chair of Fluid Separation Processes at University of Dortmund in 1992. In 1996 he took over the Chair of Fluid Separation Processes at University of Essen. Four years later, in 2000, he returned to University of Dortmund to become Head of the Laboratory of Fluid Separations (formerly Chair of Fluid Separation Processes). In addition, he has been full professor at Technical University of Lodz since 2003.

The scientific activities of Professor Andrzej Górak focus on the computer-aided simulation and the experimental validation of integrated reaction and separation processes, such as reactive distillation and reactive absorption, as well as on the analysis of hybrid separation processes and the purification of biotechnological products. Prof. Górak is also co-editor of the journal "Chemical Engineering and Processing: Process Intensification".
