The responsibility of the prorector finance includes general budget issues at TU Dortmund as well as aspects of performance evaluation and structural development that are relevant for the university as a whole.
Uwe Schwiegelshohn was born in Aachen in 1958 and studied electrical engineering at TU München, where he received his diploma degree in 1984 and completed his PhD in 1988. Afterwards he was with the IBM T.J. Watson Research Center in Yorktown Heights (USA) until he established the Computer Engineering Institute at University Dortmund in 1994. Between 1996 and 1998 he was dean of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Information Technology. Since 2005 Schwiegelshohn has served as director of the Robotics Research Institute. His main research areas are Grid computing, scheduling, and autonomous mobile robots. Schwiegelshohn is member of various interdisciplinary committees of the university and had a substantial share in restructuring the IT and media services at TU Dortmund. Since 2008, as managing director of the nonprofit D-Grid GmbH (funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research), he has led the effort to coordinate Grid research in Germany.
