Prorector Diversity Management: Prof. Dr. Barbara Welzel

Welzel-ProrektorinThe division of the Prorector Diversity Management is concerned with all issues which help ensure equal opportunities on all university levels; it aims at using the potential of socio-cultural diversity for the further development of the university.

Prof. Dr. Barbara Welzel, born in Bonn in 1961, read art history, philosophy and musicology in Bochum and Berlin. She graduated with a PhD degree from Freie Universität Berlin. From 1989 until 1991 she worked as a curatorial assistant at the Staatliche Museen, Berlin, where she co-curated the exhibition “Rembrandt. The Master and his Workshop” (Berlin-Amsterdam-London 1991/92). In 1991, she became assistant professor at the Kunstgeschichtliches Institut of Philipps-Universität, Marburg, where she completed her Habilitation in 1997. Following various temporary and guest professorships, she was appointed full professor for art history at TU Dortmund University in 2001.

Since her appointment she has been involved in academic administration at different levels – as head of her institute, as a member of the faculty council and the senate, and as a co-coordinator of the master’s degree program »Cultural Analysis and Cultural Education«. She is a member of the board of the German Association of Art Historians (Verband Deutscher Kunsthistoriker) and the national commission of CIHA (Comité International d’Histoire de l’Art), a member of the grants committee on research training groups of the German Research Foundation (DFG), a member of the scientific advisory board of the Faculty of Historical and Cultural Studies of the University of Vienna and a personal tutor of the German National Academic Foundation (Studienstiftung).
