Chancellor Albrecht Ehlers (attorney-at-law with an additional license in labor law), born 1957, studied law and economy and earned his law degree at Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster. Between 1984 and 1987, he was a research associate in the Department of Trade, Commercial and Business Law at FernUniversität Hagen (Prof. Dr. Peter Raisch) and held several executive positions in private enterprises until 2009.
Ehlers started his professional career 1987 as an assistant to the Executive Board of Directors of Glunz AG / Sonae SA, Europe’s largest manufacturer of wood based panels. Initially he gained experiences in various administrative and operative positions and acquired an international perspective by working in the United States. He was appointed to the Executive Board of Directors (Vorstand) of Glunz AG in 1996 and served as the Board’s Deputy Chairman as of 1998.
In 2000, he moved to Hochtief AG, Essen, to become member of the Executive Board of Directors (Vorstand) until 2009. Hochtief is one of the leading international providers of contruction related services with 70 000 employees and sales of 23 billion euros. Ehlers was in charge of Global HR, Management of the Headquarters and the operative segments of Insurances as well as Facility and Energy Management.
Ehlers became Chancellor of the TU Dortmund in 2010.
He is also a member of several supervisory boards of private and public companies and organisations.
