As a central scientific institution of the TU Dortmund the Sozialforschungsstelle researches, gives advice and evaluates with regard to current affairs of the German and European working environment. As a traditional research institution combining occupational research with practical projects, the Sozialforschungsstelle was already established in 1946; from 1972 to 2006 it had been assigned to the Ministry of Innovation, Science, Research and Technology of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. Since the beginning of 2007 the Sozialforschungsstelle is a central scientific institution of the TU Dortmund.
