It is the university library’s (UB) task to cover the information demand with regard to research, teaching and studying at TU Dortmund. This phrasing means a lot more than lending books.
In the “Bib,” as most of the students call the library, one can investigate, look online for literature or just quietly learn, when there is too much distraction at home.
The university library offers an extensive service, a fact that is not only shown by the bare figures: the library can call nearly 1.72 million media its own, and they can be lent out 69 hours a week. Above that, the UB holds 2,900 continually printed newspapers and 11,000 electronic newspapers. It has 1,100 workspaces, 500 of which have network connections, and 16 departmental libraries for the individual faculties and chairs.
The central library is open six days a week, often until 10 pm. The departmental libraries are usually not open for so long, but they focus on media for a certain topic, which makes investigating a lot easier.
