Barbara Welzel and Andrzej Górak new in the Rectorate’s Team

The Senate of Technische Universität Dortmund overwhelmingly accepted the solid vote of the Supervisory Board concerning the new constitution of the Rectorate. The art historian Prof. Barbara Welzel and the chemical engineer Prof. Andrzej Górak now complete the team of the Rectorate. Prof. Welzel takes over the newly established Prorectorate Diversity Management. Prof. Górak is responsible for Research and Prof. Metin Tolan, former Prorector for Research, for Academic Affairs. The former Prorector for Academic Affairs, Prof. Walter Grünzweig, receded from his office after two and a half years.

Andrej Górak is Professor for Fluid Separations. The 60-year-old scientist has extensive and long-term experiences in science management and the acquisition and coordination of national and international mayor research projects. He has, for example, been Dean of the Faculty of Biochemical and Chemical Engineering since 2009. With projects like the DFG-Transregio »InPROMPT« (Integrated Chemical Processes in Liquid Multiphase Systems), the pharmacy research project »CAEG« (Continuous Annular Electrochromatography) or the European chemistry-consortium »F3 Factory« he has turned his chair into a leading research center in the field of thermal separation methods.

The Professor for Art History, Barbara Welzel, is the first Prorector for Diversity Management. With this new field of responsibility the university administration wants to guarantee equal opportunities on all levels and to use the potential of sociocultural diversity for the further development of the university. The 49-year-old scientist has all the markings for this as she also has long-term experiences in university and science management. Since she is in Dortmund she has been actively engaged in academic autonomy as a member of the Faculty Council and the Senate and as speaker of the master program »Culture Analysis and Culture Transfer«. Apart from that, she is board member of the Association of German Art Historians, member of the Senate and the Senate Panel for Graduate Colleges of DFG, member of the Scientific Advisory Boards of the Faculty of Historical and Cultural Studies at Universität Wien and liaison lecturer of the German National Academic Foundation.

The 46-year-old physicist Prof. Metin Tolan is an acknowledged scientist and an excellent university lecturer. He was honored with the Teaching Prize of TU Dortmund in 2008 and got the title »Professor of the Year« for his practical and work-oriented teaching last year.
