EfficiencyCluster LogistikRuhr: Strengthening of the Logistics-Science Center Dortmund

With winning the elite cluster-competition, the EfficiencyCluster LogistikRuhr impressively emphasizes the excellence of the Logistics-Science Center Dortmund. Due to intensive networking with the neighboring research institutions, like the Fraunhofer Institute for Material Flow and Logistics (IML) and the Fraunhofer Institute for Software and Systems Engineering (ISST), the profile area production and logistics of TU Dortmund already holds a leading position internationally.

“Because of the intensive cooperation with industry partners and the other participating research institutions of Metropolis Ruhr, the EfficiencyCluster LogistikRuhr will be a crucial factor in strengthening this position”, states TU-rector Prof. Ursula Gather.

TU Dortmund will also profit from the development funds in the amount 40 million Euros, which the consortium was able to secure for the next five years. Besides the initiator of the cluster, Prof. Michael ten Hompel (IML), the TU-professors Prof. Uwe Clausen (IML) and Prof. Jakob Rehof (ISST) occupy important points of contact in the cluster network.

“Logistics 2.0: Move Individually” is the motto of the EfficiencyCluster LogistikRuhr. Goal of the cluster is to cope with the economical challenges of tomorrow in an ecological and socially acceptable way, with regard to more individuality in supply of goods, mobility and production with significantly less resources. It sees itself as a global center for innovative design of upscale logistics services. The interdisciplinary network unites competences of 124 companies as well as 18 research and education institutions. Until 2015 more than 4,000 new jobs are to be created by the cluster partners.
